Playing for Pizza

Playing for Pizza  is a great novel for any sports fanatic. The main character, Rick Dockery, is a NFL quarterback who is awful at playing football. During his teams chance to win their first super bowl, Rick throws three interceptions causing them to lose the game. Rick is fired and the only team that will sign him is an Italian team. Rick unwillingly accepts and moves to Italy. Here Rick meets his to-be-girlfriend, Livvy, and Rick leads the football team to victory.

For the most part, I enjoyed reading this book. At times it read really slowly, but at other times I couldn’t set down the book. I really like how the reader gets an insight on a professional footballer. You see how the press affects their everyday life, whether it’s good or bad.  You can also almost feel all the pressure that these athletes get, from their coaches, friends, and fans. I would recommend this book to any sports fans, but if sports are not your thing I suggest reading something else.

Every good story has some kind of love plot, and this book is no exception. Livvy makes Rick’s life more spontaneous, and she helps him make it through the hard times. Without her, I don’t think the story would have been very good. Overall, I think the book was good, but not awesome. In my eyes it could have been better.
