If I Stay is a tragic story of a 17 year old girl, Mia, who is a cellist bound for Juilliard whose life is put on hold after a bad winter morning. On that morning, Mia’s parents and little brother die in a car crash that leaves Mia in a coma. While in this coma, on the brink of life and death, Mia is able to see what happens, and is constantly pulled back into her memories, trying to decide if she should go to death, or fight to stay alive. And all the whule, Mia’s boyfriend and friends attempt to get her to choose them, Mia must make the decision on if she can live in a world without her family.

Overall, I liked this book. The plot was good. It did drag a little sometimes, but it was interesting to see the idea of the author. It also was interesting to think about, if you had the choice: Would you go on with life, or follow your family to death? It was very emotional, which was good. A book that deals with such a topic of life and death should reach out and touch your heart, make you feel as you read it.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an emotional book.
