Colton Burpo is a four year old boy on vacation when he finds himself sick with the “stomach flu”. After a few days, his parents took him to the emergency room to get him checked out. Colton was diagnosed with appendicitis and nearly all the doctors that checked on him did not believe that he would make it through all of his surgeries. Colton’s father, Todd Burpo, is a pastor who has just recovered from a mastectomy, broken leg, and several kidney stones. Todd has served God since he was thirteen years old, and after all he has done, his son is near death so he rages against God. Little did he know that God had just saved his son from dying. God not only saved Todd’s son, but he also took Colton to heaven. Throughout the story, Colton proceeds to tell his parents and many other people everything about heaven and all the people that lived there. Colton’s experience has changed the lives of his family and everyone in his community, and now that it is in print, it can change many more

I thought the book was fantastic. It did a wonderful job of expressing how a child sees things in life. Young children seem to have a more descriptive way of speaking. I would recommend it to anyone, whether they are religious or not.
